The small things

I was standing at an intersection, waiting for the lights to turn green for the pedestrians. For one of the roads at the intersection, the lights turned red. But an MTC bus just steered through the intersection. A motorcyclist, waiting at the same intersection, who is got to go, as the lights turned green for his way, was shocked as the bus continuously sped through its way. He stammered to stop his bike and finally looked at the bus, passing through its way, blocking his path.

These are situations, everyone usually witnesses everyday. We don't pay much attention though. I don't know if the bus driver or the motorcyclist remembers it. But, I couldn't forget it.

Rules

Rules - This word sounds good if it favours us, else one of the words that blocks human intelligence and development.

When our class teacher insists us to stand in a line at the assembly, most of don't question her/him. As we grew up, we would have noticed that simply standing in a line can make the whole view look ordered. If just classes of few students in a school, standing in a line, (following the rule) can make the whole view ordered and appropriate, then what picture a society of us following rules would look like?

Law

I have always wondered what is the difference between the words 'rule' and 'law'.

Both are set of instructions to be followed to prevent a crisis or in case of crisis. When I googled it, as every 20's kid does, I found this!! Quora article on difference between rules and laws

It had one of the differences as 'Rules are set during childhood to prepare for living in accordance with laws'. This is interesting... so as adults, are we free to not abide by rules and are entitled only to follow laws? I don't see a law punishing people, if they don't stand in a queue. Imagine a queue less counter for issue of railway tickets, you come first, still people stronger than you, push you through the crowd and get the tickets. Standing in a line is just a rule we follow without real time realisation that we are following.

Laws are stricter rules, that when we don't follow them, we are entitled to punishment. But that doesn't mean we don't need to follow rules.

Rules are there to make our life smooth. If everyone stands in a line, everyone will definitely get their ticket (fairly). Everyone loves shortcuts, but where we fall wrong is that we fail to see if our choice of shortcuts affect someone... bribing to get a government job is both against law and unseen rule, but before bribing, if the briber for a second, thinks the person deserving job can be his friend who longs for that job, then maybe he will realise that he is doing something undesirable.

Humanity

Apart from rules and laws, in this techy world, are we following humanity?  I believe in order. Everything has its purpose. Everyone's life has purpose. Life is beautiful, teaching each day an amazing fact. We never like, when our life is disturbed by someone, what if we are actually disturbing others life...

If the motorcyclist was hit by the bus, and was severely injured, making him unfit for job for few months, his life would have turned worse because of the bus driver, who neglected to follow the rule

It is just a small thing that makes a huge difference. Rules are for humans to live by humanity, neglecting them actually means neglecting ourselves.

  2. When you are not afraid of your conscience, stricter punishments should scare the hell, at least.
